Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist to take on a pivotal role in delivering and enhancing pharmacy services for rheumatology patients within NHS Lanarkshire. This position is designed to provide clinical leadership and ensure the safe and effective administration of medications tailored to the needs of our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical pharmacy service for rheumatology, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care.
  • Develop and implement clinical governance frameworks and systems for medication management, focusing on disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologics, and unlicensed medicines.
  • Review and create clinical protocols and Patient Group Directions, while engaging in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
  • Utilize independent prescribing qualifications to support a team of prescribers in managing complex rheumatology medication regimens.
  • Oversee the initiation of biologics and manage biologic switch programs, ensuring cost-effectiveness and patient safety.
  • Monitor patients during the initial stages of DMARD therapy, providing guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • A minimum of six years of hospital pharmacy experience, with at least four years in a clinical or specialized setting.
  • Proven ability to assess and monitor therapeutic regimens to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Experience in delivering postgraduate training and education.
  • Strong analytical skills and a commitment to using clinical audits to drive practice improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Additional Skills

  • Experience in rheumatology is highly desirable.
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification is preferred.
  • Ability to mentor and guide pre-registration pharmacists.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with senior pharmacy and medical staff.

Contract Details

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 37 hours of work per week.

Work Environment

The role involves working across multiple acute sites within NHS Lanarkshire, with a standard working pattern of Monday to Friday.
