Trainee Food Standards Officer

Job Summary
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic officer to join our Food Standards Team as a Trainee Food Standards Officer. This is a unique opportunity to work in a regulatory enforcement role, supporting businesses in the East Riding while robustly tackling illegal trading activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support other Food Standards officers on sampling, animal feeds, and food standards inspections across the East Riding.
- Focus on providing support to businesses, while using the full range of tools and techniques available to tackle illegal trading activities.
- Work as part of a busy team, responding to reactive complaints and conducting physical inspections of premises in a short timeframe.
- Work outside of normal working hours on occasion, and be able to respond to situations that require flexibility and adaptability.
Requirements
- Hold a clean driving licence and have your own vehicle available for business use.
- Have good time management skills, be organised, and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Be able to deal sympathetically with members of the public and businesses, while also being confident in handling difficult and challenging situations.
- Have a positive 'can do' attitude, and be flexible in your approach.
- Have good organisation, IT, and communication skills (verbal and written).
Working Arrangements
The team has blended working arrangements in place, working in the office, on site, and from home. However, it is essential that you are able to respond to reactive complaints and work outside of normal working hours on occasion.
