Job Title: Diabetes Specialist Midwife

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diabetes Specialist Midwife to join our team at the Transformation Unit. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, standardized care for women experiencing complex pregnancies.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for working collaboratively with our team to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical care for women and pregnant individuals with diabetes in the outpatient, inpatient, and community settings. You will demonstrate effective leadership and management skills, promoting a proactive approach to diabetes care within maternity services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance and support to midwives and junior doctors to ensure effective and evidence-based care for women with diabetes.
  • Work closely with the diabetes multidisciplinary team to provide clinics for women diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
  • Act as a point of contact to ensure timely access to specialist care for women with diabetes.
  • Hold professional accountability for managing a team of staff delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Build relationships and work closely with the patient safety and quality team to lead investigations of diabetes in pregnancy incidents.
  • Provide public health information and advice to women regarding lifestyle choices.
  • Liaise with obstetric staff, ward areas, pediatricians, and laboratory staff to plan delivery of high-risk pregnancies.
  • Create an environment of continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide designated leadership and management responsibility for the dedicated diabetes specialist midwife role.
  • Evidence of further professional development.
  • Masters, or evidence of postgraduate study.
  • Experience in the management of diabetes during pregnancy.
  • Excellent knowledge of medical conditions affecting pregnancy.
