Mechanical Process Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Process Operator to join our team at Tarmac's Tunstead Cement Plant in Derbyshire. As a key member of our shift team, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the plant's automated processes to ensure maximum production and quality.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and control the pre-heater, kiln feeder, rotary kiln burner, calciner, exhaust gases, emissions, and cooler processes using FLS and TDM systems.
- Manage day-to-day blockages, housekeeping, and general maintenance/production issues.
- Provide first-line maintenance support to assist the shift team in safe production of cement.
- Comply with all safety and environmental regulations, including lockout procedures and emergency management.
- Carry out maintenance duties on shift as required, adhering to site and company H&S rules and procedures.
- Ensure housekeeping of the plant meets standards and report poor practices.
- Drive mobile plant, including shovels, cranes, FLT, and telehandler vehicles.
- Review equipment and production conditions according to job plans.
- Monitor, report, and record incidents, abnormalities, or deviations, taking corrective actions when possible.
- Perform first-level inspections and systematically inspect plant equipment, reporting abnormalities.
- Support Root Cause Analysis and propose improvement actions.
- Ensure lubrication levels meet manufacturer specifications.
- Accurately measure and report stock levels, ensuring additives and raw materials are available at designated areas.
- Manually start standby equipment and ensure proper operation or stop equipment and report abnormalities.
- Provide assistance to mechanical and electrical areas to achieve shift team targets.
- Update, maintain, and store log sheets as required.
- Level 3 Apprentice-trained or ONC/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (QBE essential).
- Relevant experience in a similar heavy industrial/chemical plant environment.
- Working knowledge of production processes and analysis.
- Commitment to H&S and Environmental policies.
- Able to identify and implement site and process improvements.
- Analytical mind with a focus on cost savings.
- High-level operational IT skills, including Microsoft and Excel packages.
