London, Greater London, United Kingdom Ofgem Full time
Overview

Energy policy plays a critical role in shaping our daily lives, influencing both personal and professional spheres. It is essential for the well-being of consumers and the operational success of businesses, as well as for the broader energy sector. Our policy initiatives are designed to facilitate significant societal and infrastructural transformations necessary for achieving a Net Zero future.

With the current challenges of rising costs and supply security, it is imperative for all stakeholders in the energy sector to collaboratively ensure that this vital resource remains accessible. Our forward-looking approach emphasizes the need for energy policies that not only transition away from fossil fuels but also promote the identification and development of sustainable energy alternatives. We are also advocating for improvements in the wholesale energy market to enhance pricing efficiency and consumer benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Formulation
  • Conduct thorough and timely analysis of critical issues and policy alternatives, leading to well-founded recommendations.
  • Prepare clear and concise documentation, including policy briefs, consultation papers, impact assessments, and decision letters.
  • Oversee and guide key projects and workstreams, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and prioritization of tasks.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Communicate the advantages, challenges, and compromises of policy proposals to senior management and partners.
  • Facilitate collaboration across teams and professions to manage risks and address issues effectively.
  • Represent the organization externally, fostering constructive relationships to identify and resolve challenges in the interest of consumers.
Role-Specific Duties
  • Evaluate policy proposals by analyzing their costs, benefits, risks, and trade-offs, providing evidence-based recommendations.
  • Perform quantitative analytical tasks, including data analysis and spreadsheet management, to support assessments of wholesale electricity markets.
Essential Qualifications
  • Experience or knowledge in wholesale electricity markets, electricity supply security, or capacity market policy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in managing and engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to juggle various work activities to ensure project timelines are met.
Behaviors and Technical Skills

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to:
  • Understand the broader context of energy policy.
  • Adapt and improve processes.
  • Communicate effectively and influence decision-making.
  • Deliver results efficiently.
Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, the organization offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a significant contribution to a pension scheme, generous annual leave, and excellent training and development opportunities. Flexible working arrangements and family-friendly policies are also available, alongside a vibrant work environment that encourages contributions towards achieving ambitious energy targets.

Additional Information

Applicants will undergo a selection process that assesses behaviors, experience, and technical skills. Successful candidates will be required to complete security checks as part of the hiring process.
