Job Title: Energy Regulation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Energy Regulation Specialist to join our Regulation Team at Octopus Energy. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our positions on market design and regulation, using your expertise to drive change in the energy industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and obtain internal buy-in for Octopus Energy's positions on market design and regulation, using robust analysis and expertise drawn from the business.
  • Create advocacy strategies, working with our communications and public affairs team to build partnerships with other bodies and improve our chances of success.
  • Represent our interests in meetings and industry forums, building trust and credibility with Ofgem, DESNZ, consumer bodies, and other policy makers as needed.
  • Provide compelling position papers and well-crafted responses to consultations.
  • Work with relevant parts of the business to plan for and implement upcoming regulatory and market changes.
Requirements:
  • A good understanding of at least one of electricity wholesale market design or retail market regulation.
  • Experience in energy or another regulated industry (finance, water, telecom, etc.) as a consultant, regulator/Government official, or regulatory specialist in a consumer body or regulated company.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, able to translate complex issues clearly to non-specialists.
  • Intermediate Excel, strong slide deck, and good project management skills.
  • A track record that demonstrates you will fit with our ways of working.
  • A good understanding and commitment to our mission and business model.
