Lead Counsel for Employment Matters

We are seeking a Lead Counsel specializing in Employment Law to become a vital part of our team in London, UK.

The Lead Counsel will serve as a primary resource and advisor for various business units regarding all legal issues related to employment, particularly those of significant operational and commercial relevance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provides strategic guidance and plays a pivotal role in the resolution of disputes and negotiation of settlement agreements concerning employees, ensuring outcomes that align with the best interests of the organization. Collaborates with external legal counsel when litigation arises.
  2. Acts as a safeguard in reducing legal exposure related to employment matters.
  3. Delivers legal counsel to Human Resources and business teams, including the assessment of policies and procedures. Monitors legislative changes and advises the organization on necessary legal updates to policies and procedures.
  4. Maintains relationships with corporate legal teams and participates in legal study groups on various topics.
  5. Offers expertise in matters concerning works councils.
  6. Responsible for drafting, negotiating, and advising on a diverse array of employment-related legal issues (including restructures, complex individual matters, TUPE, and extensive outsourcing agreements), in addition to negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial contracts.
  7. Collaborates with HR and the procurement team on contracts for contingent labor.
  8. Provides general commercial legal support as needed (e.g., contracts related to business acquisitions and customer services).
  9. Offers legal advice in other areas as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Several years of relevant experience in employment law, complemented by a Master of Law degree.
  2. Strong understanding of legal principles and other specialized areas (e.g., contract and commercial law), with practical experience in a business environment or law firm.
  3. Proven experience in delivering comprehensive legal support on policy-related issues.
  4. Excellent organizational abilities.
  5. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills to effectively represent interests and provide advisory services.
  6. Ability to engage professionally with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  7. Proficient writing skills for articulating legal matters, contracts, reports, etc., with clarity and creativity.
  8. A collaborative team player with a proactive approach.
  9. Experience or capability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced organization.
  10. Proficient in spoken and written English.
