Lead Counsel for Employment Law

We are seeking a Lead Counsel specializing in Employment Law (UK) to become an integral part of our team in London, UK.

The Lead Counsel (Employment Law) serves as a primary contact and advisor for business units regarding all legal matters related to employment, including issues of significant operational and commercial relevance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provides guidance and takes a proactive role in the resolution of disputes and the formulation of settlement agreements concerning employees, ensuring outcomes that align with the best interests of the organization. Collaborates with external legal counsel when legal actions are initiated.
  2. Acts as a guardian in reducing legal exposure concerning the addressed issues.
  3. Offers legal counsel to HR and the business, including the evaluation of policies and procedures. Monitors new legislation and advises the organization accordingly, aiding in the implementation of necessary legal modifications to policies and procedures.
  4. Maintains relationships with corporate attorneys and participates in study groups on various legal topics.
  5. Provides specialized knowledge in works council matters.
  6. Drafts, negotiates, and advises on a diverse array of legal employment issues (such as restructures, complex individual matters, TUPE, and large framework agreements for outsourcing), in addition to negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial contracts.
  7. Collaborates with HR and the Business Services procurement team on Contingent Labour Contracts.
  8. Offers broader commercial legal support as needed (e.g., contracts for business acquisitions and customer services).
  9. Provides advice in other legal domains as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Significant experience in the employment law sector with a Master's degree in Law.
  2. Strong understanding of legal principles and other specialized areas (e.g., contract and commercial law), along with practical legal experience in a business environment or law firm.
  3. Proven experience in delivering robust legal support on general policy matters.
  4. Excellent organizational abilities.
  5. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills for representing interests and providing advisory services.
  6. Ability to engage professionally with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultural backgrounds within the organization.
  7. Proficient writing skills for articulating matters, contracts, reports, etc., in precise and innovative legal language.
  8. Must be a collaborative team player with a proactive approach.
  9. Experience or capability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced organization.
  10. Proficient in spoken and written English.
