About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Research Engineer to join our Metrology Team based in Coventry. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical delivery of projects and support the development of project-related activities across The MTC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical delivery of projects, ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, within agreed budgets and timescales.
  • Conduct innovative engineering research work focused on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and demonstrate industrial project delivery.
  • Contribute to the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into The MTC, customers, or industrial members' premises.
Requirements
  • Hold a degree in engineering, technology, science, or mathematics.
  • Be working towards professional registration.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of technologies through previous project work, including tactile measurement technologies, non-contact 3D point cloud gathering systems, and surface metrology technologies.
  • Have an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies and how different technologies may be more appropriate to specific inspection applications.
  • Be aware of how metrology and inspection can support broader Digital Engineering/Industry 4.0 concepts.
  • Have the ability to apply this knowledge to down-selection style projects to make objective recommendations on candidate technologies/systems for specific applications.
  • Have the ability to apply this knowledge to undertake validation trials and Measurement System Analysis studies to prove a system's capability for an application.
  • Have knowledge of the manufacturing sector and understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
  • Have experience working in R&D or project-based environments.
  • Be able to transfer knowledge and expertise to others.
