Job Overview

At St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, a new opportunity has arisen to join the Bereavement Service team. This team collaborates closely with clinical and non-clinical personnel to deliver a compassionate service to the bereaved following the loss of a patient, ensuring the completion of essential documentation for registrations and funeral arrangements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on administrative procedures post-death to medical and managerial staff
  • Coordinate completion of documentation required after patient's death
  • Give detailed information to bereaved relatives on death registration procedures
  • Advise on repatriation and funeral arrangement processes
  • Ensure accurate recording of deceased patients' details in the database
  • Recognize and address newly bereaved individuals' needs
  • Liaise with Coroners officers and clinicians where necessary
  • Inform relevant parties of the patient's death promptly
  • Update patient files and hospital systems regarding deaths
  • Handle cash and valuables placed in safekeeping, coordinating with Finance for their return
  • Facilitate funeral arrangements for adults and support services for pregnancy losses and neonatal deaths
  • Ensure all duties are performed efficiently and in accordance with procedures

Key Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities and strict deadlines
  • Previous experience in Office Administration
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management
  • Understanding of the importance of discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team

Desirable

  • Background in health or social care
  • Prior experience in Bereavement Services
  • Knowledge of NHS governance

  • A level standard or equivalent experience in numeracy and literacy
