Torfaen County Borough Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our team.

In this role, you will play a vital part in safeguarding the health and well-being of residents within Torfaen. You will be responsible for ensuring businesses comply with relevant legislation governing food safety, health and safety, and communicable disease control.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to businesses on regulatory requirements related to food safety, hygiene, and health and safety.
  • Conduct inspections of businesses to assess compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to raise awareness of health and safety best practices.
  • Investigate complaints and incidents related to environmental health concerns.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders to promote public health and safety.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Degree in Environmental Health or a related field.
  • Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
  • Relevant Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) qualification for enforcement officers.
  • Minimum of 10 Continual Professional Development (CPD) hours within the last 12 months in food safety training related to official controls delivery.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Training in the inspection of specialized or complex processes, such as sous-vide.
  • Relevant quality assurance qualification, such as Lead Auditor.
  • Voting member of the CIEH.
