Role Overview

Ecclesiastical Insurance, a proud member of the Benefact Group, is seeking a Risk Manager to enhance our Gloucester office.

This position involves spearheading first-line risk management within the UK General Insurance sector (UKGI), providing expert advice on risk-related issues, and advancing risk initiatives in accordance with the Group's risk management framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the Group's risk management framework throughout UKGI via effective control systems to ensure operations align with Risk Appetite.
  • Serve as a key resource for risk expertise, guiding UKGI teams in the effective management of risk identification, reporting, and control.
  • Establish, maintain, and evaluate a risk profile for significant risks managed by UKLT, ensuring thorough risk identification and oversight.
  • Advise governance meetings, such as Risk Meeting and Customer and Conduct Council, regarding risks under their supervision.
  • Provide assurance on the design and efficacy of the risk management framework within UKGI.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and comprehensive reports on current and future risk exposures to support timely risk mitigation decisions.
  • Lead investigations into risk incidents, collaborating with various departments to analyze information and recommend necessary changes.
  • Oversee compliance with the UKGI Risk Appetite, engaging with management to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of control systems within UKGI, leading action plans to address identified deficiencies.
  • Coordinate the annual evaluation of compliance with the Group's risk management and policy framework through the Control & Risk Self-Assessment (CRSA).
  • Build strong relationships with Group Risk, Group Compliance, and Group Internal Audit to support overarching risk management objectives.
  • Proactively update Group Risk and assurance functions on significant developments and plans.
  • Facilitate stakeholder responses to monitoring reviews and ensure timely completion of actions, reporting progress to UKLT.
  • Develop policies, standards, training, and guidance to support the effective implementation of the risk management framework in UKGI.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Relevant experience in financial services risk roles; risk management qualification is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and best practices in financial services.
  • Proven ability to cultivate effective relationships and influence key stakeholders, including directors and business managers.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing capabilities.
  • Demonstrates sound commercial judgment and the ability to devise practical solutions.
  • Proactive with strong analytical skills, adept at identifying underlying issues in complex scenarios and linking them to overall risk management strategies.
