About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Horse Adoptions Preparation Rider to join our team at our Rolleston rehoming centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the care and preparation of horses and ponies for rehoming. This will involve handling, riding, and training a variety of horses and ponies, as well as working closely with our Rehabilitation Trainer and Behaviour Advisor (RTBA) and the Adoptions Preparation Lead.

About You

We are looking for someone who is intuitive with horses, empathetic, and focused on welfare. You will have experience of working with horses and ponies, and be able to assess their needs, recognise behavioural signs, and have knowledge of medications such as hibiscrub and worming treatments. You will also be a confident and patient rider, able to handle a variety of horses and ponies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle, ride, and train a variety of horses and ponies
  • Work closely with the Rehabilitation Trainer and Behaviour Advisor (RTBA) and the Admissions Preparation Lead
  • Assess the needs of horses and ponies and provide appropriate care and treatment
  • Recognise behavioural signs and take appropriate action
  • Have knowledge of medications such as hibiscrub and worming treatments
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience of having previously worked or volunteered with horses or in a horse welfare environment
  • BHS stage 3, NVQ3 or equivalent professional experience
  • Good communication skills
  • A working knowledge of caring for a variety of field kept and stabled horses/ponies
  • Experience of handling, riding and training a variety of different types of horses and ponies
  • Experience of starting, riding and producing a variety of young horses
  • Knowledge of basic horse veterinary procedures, common horse ailments and injuries
  • Current full driving licence
  • The ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our Blue Cross values
