Lead Nurse - Band 7 Winter Care Unit

Key Responsibilities

Assume ongoing responsibility and accountability for departmental management, optimizing resources to ensure the highest standards of patient care are consistently met. Uphold the Code of Professional Conduct while executing duties in alignment with Trust policies and procedures. Exhibit expert knowledge and skills within the clinical setting. Mentor, support, and supervise all team members, serving as a role model in professional conduct and endorsing the nursing and allied health professionals' strategy. Actively engage in divisional management, including serving as the senior bleep holder. Commit to personal clinical and professional development by staying informed on emerging trends and integrating them into practice.

Professional Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

Ensure the independent delivery of evidence-based nursing care through expert clinical assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, and guidance in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. Maintain professional and legal accountability for all aspects of your work, including oversight of junior staff and patient management, functioning as an autonomous clinical practitioner. Competently undertake expanded roles and provide training and assessment for other clinical staff to enhance patient care delivery. Utilize independent judgment to initiate appropriate interventions in complex cases prior to medical assistance being available. Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring clarity and legibility in accordance with Trust and NMC standards. Identify and implement service development priorities, communicating effectively with the Matron regarding all relevant issues. Recognize training needs for nursing staff related to practice changes and ensure their fulfillment. Collaborate with the Matron and other professionals to develop and implement clinical guidelines and policies. Ensure compliance with the Trust Medicines Policy and NMC standards for medication administration. Lead audits of practice and clinical effectiveness as per divisional and regional audit plans. Initiate and guide specific practice developments in line with local and national policies to enhance patient care. Conduct benchmarking activities within the clinical area and implement outcomes from safety and quality accreditation programs. Continuously develop advanced theoretical and practical skills necessary for practice. Assess and manage clinical areas in accordance with health and safety legislation and risk management policies. Facilitate access to professional and clinical information for staff. Ensure the availability of appropriate patient information that addresses communication barriers. Adhere to Data Protection and Caldecott requirements for information sharing.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

Registered Nurse with current registration ENB 998/997/mentorship module or equivalent Diploma/Degree or in progress
