Nursing Associate - Stamford Unit

An exceptional opportunity is available within the Integrated Care division for a Nursing Associate.

The Stamford Unit Intermediate Centre features 96 beds, providing a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of patients with diverse medical conditions and varying levels of need. Our primary goal is to deliver outstanding care and rehabilitation, ensuring patients are prepared for a safe return home.

Key Responsibilities

The Nursing Associate possesses a wide-ranging knowledge base, offering holistic and individualized care and support to individuals of all ages across various settings. This role serves to bridge the gap between Health Care Assistants and Registered Nurses, functioning independently under the guidance of Registered Nurses and engaging in all facets of the nursing process.

Nursing Associates are equipped with the essential knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors pertinent to their roles and are expected to adhere to the NMC Code: Professional standards of practice and behavior for nurses, midwives, and nursing associates.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a registered nurse to provide and deliver high-quality nursing care, contributing to ongoing assessments and evidence-based care.
  • Continuously monitor the health conditions and needs of patients, ensuring appropriate escalation to a registered nurse when necessary.
  • Support patients in enhancing and maintaining their mental, physical, and behavioral health.
  • Ensure that patients' personal and social needs are met to promote comfort and well-being.
  • Safely perform various procedures to meet patients' nursing needs, including routine tasks such as venepuncture, ECG recording, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Prioritize and manage your workload, recognizing when care elements can be delegated to colleagues or family members.
  • Work collaboratively with registered nurses and engage with other agencies to ensure a safe, individualized approach to patient admissions and discharges.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with Trust policy and the NMC Code.
  • Provide effective evidence-based care under the supervision of registered nurses, adhering to clinical governance standards.

Communication Skills

  • Communicate with dignity and respect to all patients, relatives, and colleagues, considering potential barriers.
  • Provide clear verbal, digital, or written information when sharing details or delegating responsibilities.
  • Recognize and report any situations or behaviors that could lead to poor care outcomes.

Medication Management

  • Understand the effects of medications, including allergies and side effects.
  • Administer medications safely and effectively in accordance with Trust policy.

  • Report any issues related to medication management that could affect patient care.

Professional Development

  • Engage in mandatory training and competencies.
  • Participate in a preceptorship period to achieve the Nursing Associate Medicines Management Competency.
  • Maintain professional development in line with NMC requirements.
  • Support and supervise trainee nursing associates and new staff, promoting reflective practice.

Research and Development

  • Identify relevant evidence sources to inform practice.
  • Critically analyze personal practice in light of best available evidence.
  • Contribute to audits and research activities as required.

Professional Standards

  • Comply with NMC regulations for revalidation.
  • Act as a professional role model in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • Participate in ward/unit meetings.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC Register / AP qualification.
  • GCSEs Grade C or above in Maths and English Language / New GCSE Grade 4-9 in Maths and English Language OR Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English or Equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Understanding of the Nursing Associate role within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of NMC professional standards and the importance of following procedures.
  • Experience working in teams under supervision.
