About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Healthcare Research Scientist in the Flow Cytometry Section of the Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (SIHMDS)/Haematology at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake laboratory techniques in line with department standard operating procedures.
  • Process Infant leukaemia samples ready for analysis.
  • Carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of scientific and technical excellence.
  • Help ensure that all results are reported within agreed turnaround times.
  • Participate in performing the internal quality control and the external quality assessment schemes for designated tests.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective organisation of work and staff within the Haematology Flow Cytometry section under the direction of the Lead Healthcare Scientist / SAIL Study Senior Scientist.
Requirements
  • BSc In Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
  • Evidence of training and cell cryopreservation in a diagnostic UKAS accredited NHS Laboratory.
  • Appropriate experience in a Clinical Haematology Diagnostic Laboratory.
  • Computer Literacy and comprehensive knowledge of database entry for clinical and research findings.
  • Knowledge of Quality assurance including ISO 15189 standards.
  • Ability to use EPIC EPR computer system.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Competent in laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use standard software programmes and to use laboratory computer system.
  • Involvement in External Quality Assessment & Internal Quality Control.
