Job Summary

Lidl is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Sustainability and Environmental Impact to join our Corporate Affairs department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our sustainability strategy nationwide, ensuring that our business practices align with our values and goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy that aligns with Lidl's business objectives and values.
  • Lead the Sustainability team and report to the Head of Corporate Affairs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of CSR KPIs and data of supplier performance, ensuring that our business practices meet the highest standards.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the Board, including performance updates, risks, opportunities, and market developments.
  • Empower the business to support and advocate positive change through proactive engagement, fostering a culture of sustainability and best practice.
  • Identify and develop key sustainability programs to deliver against business goals and commitments.
  • Act as a figurehead for sustainability across the business, embedding a positive culture and best practice, and externally with key CSR stakeholders.
  • Represent Lidl on sustainability positions at external events, promoting our brand and values.
  • Oversee the delivery of sustainability-related communication, both internal and external.
  • Lead and chair the strategic CSR steering committee, defining key objectives, prioritized action, and Board engagement.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in building high-performing and professional teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of company strategy and its application to sustainability.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently, within tight deadlines.
  • Confidence and ability to come up with new ideas and present new strategies to seniors within the business.
  • Flexibility to meet changing deadlines and manage the consequences of these changes.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to persuade and convince others.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver relevant detail effectively and understandably.
  • Flexible to travel throughout the UK and internationally.
  • German language skills would be advantageous.
