Advanced Physiotherapist in Pediatric Neuro-Rehabilitation

Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a skilled Physiotherapist to become a vital member of the Pediatric Neuro-Disability team. This role offers the flexibility to transition into a full-time position, focusing on developmental care physiotherapy within an inpatient Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The Pediatric Neuro-Disability team provides care for children and adolescents aged 0-19 years throughout the region. The responsibilities encompass clinical practice across various settings, including acute care, outpatient services, and community outreach. This includes participation in specialized multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinics, outpatient consultations, home assessments, and engagements in both mainstream and specialized educational environments. The patient demographic includes those with diverse conditions such as cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries, neuromuscular disorders, oncological issues, genetic anomalies, and developmental delays.

The NICU responsibilities involve conducting standardized evaluations and developing treatment strategies for infants in the unit, alongside planning their transition to community care. Clinical expertise and experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Continuous Professional Development is strongly encouraged through a structured appraisal system, in-service training, and access to postgraduate library resources.

Key Responsibilities

As the appointed professional, you will oversee a caseload of patients with various chronic conditions. Your duties will include the physical management of patients, focusing on their postural care, orthotic needs, and exercise regimens. The role promotes active participation in specialized MDT clinics to address the medical and surgical requirements related to the movement challenges faced by children and young people.

Successful candidates will manage their own caseloads while also engaging in outpatient neuro-disability clinics, which may include hydrotherapy, review sessions, developmental assessments, and rehabilitation programs.

In this role, you will also be responsible for mentoring and training physiotherapists, assistant practitioners, and students. The development and supervision of junior staff will be a fundamental aspect of this advanced role.

As part of an acute healthcare trust, involvement in the pediatric on-call and weekend service is a requirement of this position. A rota system is in place, with options for additional compensation or time off in lieu.

We are a progressive, evidence-based team seeking to enhance our rehabilitation services for children with neuro-disabilities. We aim to recruit a like-minded, innovative physiotherapist to collaborate and lead in the advancement of this service.
