Dock Mechanical Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Babcock International, specifically for the Dock Readiness project. This project involves delivering infrastructure upgrades for the existing dry dock that will be used for submarine defuels within a nuclear licensed site.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support the development of 3D models, 2D CAD drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) for the project.
- Update or provide information to support updating existing documents such as the Design Specification Report (DSR), Operations and Maintenance Manual (OMM), Job Plans, and Inspection methods.
- Convert existing design records into a 3D model and maintain project registers of technical queries, change requests, design review requests, and design review actions.
- Determine durations for design tasks to support the principal engineer and project manager in planning activities.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of engineering works, including mechanical handling, mechanical or electrical systems/services.
- Experience of mechanical design, including new or modification to structures and systems, including concept, detail design, implementation, and commissioning.
- Experience of the nuclear civil or defence industries, which would be considered valuable.
- Ability to follow a nuclear safety-led engineering process and maintain accurate records and document/drawing revision control.
- Effective report writing and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or similar software to oversee and support production of models and drawings of mechanical components with electrical harnesses.
- Ability to communicate effectively and host and participate in design meetings across Microsoft Teams while working remotely and on site.
- Preferably experience in using Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, Autodesk Vault, and Navisworks.
- Hold a degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Preferably hold Chartered Engineer status and membership of the relevant institute or significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council at CEng level.
