About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Babcock International, working on the Devonport site. As a key member of the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for delivering designs for infrastructure upgrades on the existing dry dock, which will be used for submarine defuels.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, with experience in working on nuclear licensed sites. You will be responsible for overseeing the generation of 3D models, 2D CAD drawings, and Bills of Materials, as well as updating existing documents and maintaining project registers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the generation of 3D models, 2D CAD drawings, and Bills of Materials
  • Update existing documents, including the DSR, OMM, Job Plans, and Inspection methods
  • Convert existing design records into 3D models
  • Maintain and update project registers of technical queries, change requests, design review requests, and design review actions
  • Determine durations for design tasks to support the principal engineer and project manager in planning activities
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of engineering works, including mechanical handling, mechanical or electrical systems/services
  • Experience of mechanical design, including new or modification to structures and systems, concept, detail design, implementation, and commissioning
  • Ability to follow a nuclear safety led engineering process and maintain accurate records and document/drawing revision control
  • Effective report writing and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or similar software to oversee and support production of models and drawings of mechanical components with electrical harnesses
  • Demonstrable communication skills and ability to host and participate in design meetings across Microsoft Teams while working remotely and on site
