Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Role Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service nursing and allied healthcare professional team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The Exeter ILD Service delivers a regional service across the South West Peninsular, encompassing areas such as Devon, Cornwall, and parts of Somerset and Dorset.

Position Details

For comprehensive information regarding the Job Description and Responsibilities, please refer to the provided link.

Key Responsibilities:

The ILD Assistant Practitioner role represents a significant advancement within the ILD Team. Your primary responsibility will be to offer support and education to patients diagnosed with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and their families or caregivers. This position will allow you to engage with patients through various channels, including telephone consultations, clinic visits, and home visits, as well as coordinating support group meetings. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients and their caregivers comprehend the diagnostic process and the planning and delivery of care tailored to their needs, facilitating timely investigations, diagnoses, and treatments.

Much of your patient support will focus on helping individuals maintain their quality of life, manage medication side effects, connect them with support services and groups, and ensure their safety through blood monitoring and regular follow-ups. You will also participate in home visits, collaborating with our dietitian, occupational therapist, and physiotherapist. As you gain knowledge and experience, there will be opportunities to assist with or lead your own clinics, which may include telephone consultations, ambulatory oxygen assessments, and pulmonary rehabilitation evaluations.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen enthusiasm for learning about ILD, with some foundational knowledge of respiratory conditions and their impact on patients and their families. In your application, you should clearly demonstrate how you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification.

The South West Peninsular ILD service at the Royal Devon is a dynamic team committed to providing staff development opportunities within their specialty and respiratory medicine. You will receive support from the existing team, which includes ILD consultants, ILD nurses, administrative staff, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dietitians, and occupational therapists. A key aspect of this role is your chance to contribute to the advancement and quality improvement of the ILD service.

Work Schedule: Flexible hours, Monday to Friday.

Additional Information: The Royal Devon values diversity and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential. We actively encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities, recognizing the benefits of a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

Benefits:

We prioritize your well-being.

We strive to help our staff achieve a healthy work-life balance through flexible working arrangements and family-friendly policies.

New employees will begin with a generous annual leave entitlement, increasing with service, in addition to bank holidays.

Access to comprehensive occupational health services, including counseling and onsite wellness activities, is available.

We are committed to your professional development.

This may include funding for certifications, degrees, or leadership training, as well as time off for study, continuing professional development, or rotational placements to enhance your skills.

Financial Benefits:

You will have access to a wide range of staff discounts on shopping, fitness, and leisure activities, along with options to spread the cost of technology and home appliance purchases. Additional benefits include:

  • National discount services such as the Blue Light Card and Health Service Discounts.
  • Salary sacrifice options, including an onsite nursery.
  • Car lease schemes.
  • Participation in the NHS Pension scheme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.

These are just a few of the benefits available – we look forward to your interest in this role.
