The Research Director will provide strategic leadership and support for Research & Innovation (R&I) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts, working closely with the Clinical Director(s) of Research & Innovation and the R&I Senior Management Team (SMT) to develop and deliver the research strategy and operational objectives for R&I.
Main Responsibilities- Provide oversight of the performance of R&I and ensure stretching targets are set and met each year, including delivering financial sustainability.
- Work closely with the Clinical Director(s) of Research and Innovation and SMT in setting standards and objectives for research, providing support to SMT colleagues when there are challenges.
- Lead the development, delivery, and performance management of the Research Strategy and the growth of the research portfolio, ensuring regular review and updating of plans.
- Act as an ambassador for health and care research, internally and externally, representing the Trust at regional and national forums.
- Be a visible leader, promoting a culture of staff development, collaboration, positive staff experience, wellbeing, and inclusion, embedding patient, carer, and public involvement at all appropriate levels of decision making.
- Work in close partnership with the Trust's corporate teams to ensure R&I's compliance with regulations, policies, and standards.
- Communicate the Trust's research vision and plans to internal staff and external agencies, raising the profile and highlighting the benefits of research activity within the Trust.
- Work with academic and commercial partners to enable increasing academic delivery across the Trust.
- Essential:
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree, supplemented by specialist training to masters or equivalent level, management qualification or equivalent experience.
- Significant evidenced continual professional development within the research environment.
- Desirable:
- PhD, MD, or equivalent research qualification.
