Job Overview

Oxford University Hospitals is committed to supporting midwives in returning to their careers and re-joining the NMC register. We understand that re-entering the workforce can be a challenging and complex process, and we are here to provide guidance and support every step of the way.

Main Duties of the Job

We are offering a seconded route into your return to practice with the NMC in all four of our hospital sites in Oxfordshire. As a Band Maternity Support Worker, you will have the opportunity to refresh your skills and confidence in patient care, supported by our experienced teams. You will also be supported to apply for a place on one of the Return to Practice courses, hosted by a variety of universities. While you are on the programme, you will work as a student nurse or midwife, with the support of a Practice Assessor. On successful completion of the programme and return of your NMC PIN, you will convert to a Band preceptee midwife. From here, you can expect a preceptorship period as you build your career in the direction you want to go.

Support Available

As a returner, you will have access to a range of support and resources to help you succeed in your return to practice journey. These include:

  • University fees paid for you
  • Continued payment as a Band member while you train
  • Access to role-specific training, both in-person and online
  • A full preceptorship programme on re-entry to the register, with support from the Practice Development Team

Please note that this job is not eligible for International Educated Midwives seeking an NMC PIN.
