About the Role

We are seeking experienced engineers to contribute to our Energy team, focusing on Transmission and Distribution projects for National Grid and other clients. This role involves leading design teams, ensuring compliance with relevant National Grid standards (TP SR), and designing Substation Protection and/or Control Systems, including associated cabling systems (Power, Control, Communications).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all technical aspects of the project team.
  • Review and approve designs developed by the team, ensuring they meet Customer Requirements and National Grid Standards.
  • Act as LCDAE or CDAE under NG/ET/SR188 (TP137), overseeing design approvals.
  • Ensure the team adheres to established procedures, methods, and standards for engineering design.
  • Interpret and verify customer-supplied data, specifications, and drawings.
  • Lead the creation of system designs based on customer information.
  • Develop comprehensive Design Packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams, and site cable drawings.
  • Produce client design documentation such as Design Intent Documents, Functional Design Specifications, test documentation, and Manuals.
  • Conduct site surveys and assist in preparing Health and Safety Documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and others to plan project design and implementation.
  • Provide support during Site Acceptance Testing/Commissioning.
  • Contribute to the production of tender documents and cost estimates.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in Substation Protection and/or Control Systems within the Transmission and Distribution Sector.
  • Competence in field cabling systems (Power, Control, and Communications), including surveying, route identification, cable calculations for sizing, and earthing/protection.
  • Strong understanding of National Grid TP (SR) Standards.
  • Demonstrated experience as LCDAE / CDAE under NG/ET/SR188 (TP137).
  • Education to at least degree level in a relevant subject or HND with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience, or 6 years post-HND experience, on successful project implementation in the aforementioned areas of expertise.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, AutoCAD, and Excel.
  • Methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation.
  • Understanding of the Full Project Lifecycle.
  • Hold a current full driving licence (UK or be able to easily convert to a full UK licence).
  • Willingness to undergo a basic disclosure Scotland check.

Desirable Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Experience in specific areas such as Substation Protection, Control Systems engineering, Transmission and Distribution.
  • Expertise in relevant software applications.
