Darlington, United Kingdom HM Treasury Full time

If you are passionate about enhancing the lives of individuals, HM Treasury presents an exceptional opportunity to impact decision-making that influences the entire UK. Positioned at the core of government, we work collaboratively to advocate for responsible public expenditure and foster robust and sustainable economic development.

About the Team

You will join a welcoming Compensation and Benefits team led by two experienced Range E professionals. This team oversees both delegated and Senior Civil Service (SCS) remuneration processes, alongside various reward policies established by Her Majesty's Treasury (HMT). We manage intricate casework and oversee the contract with the employee benefits provider. Situated within the Resourcing and Reward Branch, we collaborate with other HR divisions, including Casework & Policy, Talent & Workforce Planning, Learning & Development, and Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging teams to deliver comprehensive HR services to the Department. Additionally, we have a partner team in Norwich that manages service delivery for the Treasury and its Arms Length Bodies (ALBs).

About the Role

Our Compensation and Benefits function provides expert guidance to the department, ranging from leading the strategic formulation of our reward strategy to addressing complex remuneration casework. Data is central to all our initiatives, whether it involves supplying reliable evidence for strategic decision-making, monitoring the effects of our strategies, or devising solutions for casework.

As you gain confidence in this specialization, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Generating data for various annual reporting obligations (central government commissions, pay gap reporting), ensuring the information is accurate and current as required.
  • Assisting in the development of a broader compensation and benefits strategy through the creation and presentation of ad-hoc data requests, ensuring data integrity for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Enhancing your knowledge and expertise regarding civil service compensation and benefits policies.
  • Leading and addressing compensation casework and managing mailbox inquiries as they arise.
  • Supporting compensation-related projects by conducting research and developing data sets using Excel to bolster team proposals.
  • Participating in cross-government meetings, taking notes, and crafting communications for significant compensation announcements to the department.
  • Fostering and maintaining positive relationships with various stakeholders across HMT, other government departments, and HMT's arm's length bodies.

About You

In addition to advancing your own expertise in compensation and benefits, you will assist in delivering data across the function, both for regular reporting and to support ad-hoc requests.

You should be capable of analyzing and utilizing a variety of credible information from both internal and external sources, clearly communicating information to facilitate decision-making. Being an excellent team player who can cultivate relationships with a diverse range of contacts to share knowledge, information, and insights is essential. You should also possess the ability to assist colleagues in urgent tasks, demonstrating flexibility and a positive attitude.

HM Treasury is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, dedicated to fairness and the promotion of equal opportunities for all. We recognize that a variety of experiences, working styles, and perspectives strengthens our organization, enabling us to develop policies that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome diverse viewpoints and experiences and value the fresh insights that individuals from various backgrounds bring to our work.

Some of the Benefits Our Employees Appreciate

  • 25 days of annual leave (increasing to 30 days after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King's birthday. Additionally, we offer flexible working systems, allowing you to take up to 2 extra days off each month.
  • Flexible working arrangements (part-time, job-share, compressed hours).
  • Generous parental and adoption leave packages.
  • A Civil Service Pension that offers an attractive pension scheme, benefits for dependents, and average employer contributions of 27%.
  • Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances.
  • A Rental Deposit Advance Scheme to assist with the total costs of deposits for privately rented accommodations.
  • Access to HM Treasury's benefits portal, providing a range of discount codes for online shopping.
  • A variety of active staff networks focused on interests (e.g., analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity.
