Position Overview

The successful candidate will play a vital role within the gynaecology department, collaborating effectively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals, including medical staff, nursing personnel, midwives, and allied health specialists. This role encompasses advanced responsibilities typically associated with medical practitioners.

As a Senior Clinical Practitioner, you will operate under established protocols and guidelines, utilizing independent judgment in conducting patient histories, examinations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for a designated group of patients.

The primary workplace will be within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, with potential influence extending across the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Clinical Practitioner will serve as a professional resource for multidisciplinary teams, patients, and their families. You will ensure that evidence-based practices are integrated into all aspects of patient care and treatment, disseminating this knowledge throughout the clinical environment and beyond.

Responsibilities include triaging patient referrals, either independently or in collaboration with medical, therapy, or other clinical colleagues, and making appropriate onward referrals in accordance with organizational policies.

You will be professionally accountable and legally responsible for all aspects of your work, including patient management within your defined scope of practice.

Additionally, you will provide specialized advice on patient care to the healthcare team and act as a key resource within the service.

It is essential to maintain comprehensive and accurate records of assessments and treatments (both written and electronic) in compliance with legal, professional, and organizational standards. You will communicate assessment and treatment outcomes, which have been reviewed and approved by your clinical supervisor, to relevant disciplines through letters and reports.

A thorough understanding of professional accountability and legal frameworks governing advanced practice is required.

You will demonstrate safe practice in alignment with the Trust's Quality, Safety, and Risk Management policies, as well as Child Protection and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policies, and adhere to consent regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • A clinical-based master's degree.
  • Education at the master's level that aligns with the national framework for Advanced Level Practice.
  • Relevant study or knowledge pertaining to the specialty.

Advanced Clinical Skills

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in assessing, diagnosing, and acting as an independent practitioner.
  • Ability to autonomously manage a personal patient caseload in either a ward or clinic setting.
  • Competence in independently assessing, diagnosing, and formulating management plans for urgently referred patients.

Experience

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of policies and protocols, with the ability to influence service improvements.
  • Significant experience in a specialist or practitioner role at Band 8a, with knowledge and skills that meet the essential criteria for this position.
  • Experience in managing a personal caseload of patients and practicing autonomously.

Desirable Experience

  • Evidence of developing nurse or therapy-led services and clinics, either in collaboration with or independently from medical consultants.

Communication and Relationship Skills
