Job Details and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Governance Manager to join our team at North East Derbyshire District Council. As a key member of our Governance Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of our Council's formal meetings and governance processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Governance Team in the management of the Council's formal meetings and governance processes.
  • Provide expert advice to senior officers and elected members on governance matters.
  • Develop and implement effective governance strategies to ensure the Council's delivery ambitions are achieved.
  • Manage a significant workload, including the development of policies and procedures, and the provision of training and support to Team members.
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure effective governance and decision-making.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience of leading a Governance team within a local authority or relevant sector background.
  • Strong understanding of governance processes and procedures, including the operation of democratic processes and the Constitution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and elected members.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide expert advice and guidance.
