Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Senior Oncoplastic Breast Consultant to become a vital part of our dedicated team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Your role will involve delivering a high-quality Consultant-level oncoplastic breast service while fostering clinical research, trials, and innovative practices within the organization.

You will collaborate with a robust multidisciplinary team, which includes breast radiologists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, histopathologists, radiographers, clinical nurse specialists, and breast-specific healthcare assistants. The team is further supported by a dedicated MDT coordinator.

Our patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) system is facilitated through an established nurse-led open-access follow-up framework, with administrative support to enhance efficiency.

The unit benefits from the expertise of a unit counsellor and lymphoedema therapists, with genetic services provided through a reputable partner institution.

Regular breast MDT meetings are scheduled, ensuring comprehensive case discussions and collaborative decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering clinical services in accordance with the Trust's clinical governance framework, ensuring adherence to established quality standards.
  • Conducting audits of clinical practices within the department to guarantee the application of current standards and evidence-based methodologies.
  • Maintaining and enhancing your clinical competencies, with individual training and development needs identified through a structured appraisal process.
  • Engaging in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, supported by the Trust's commitment to providing time and financial resources for these initiatives.
  • Adapting to the evolving nature of the contracting process, demonstrating flexibility in working arrangements, which may include innovative patterns of service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Registration on the GMC specialist register

  • Possession of a higher degree

Knowledge and Experience
