Join the Childline Team

At Childline, we empower young individuals by providing a listening ear when they need it most.

Our mission is to be a reliable source of support for every child or young person seeking assistance, available every day of the year, at any hour. Childline operates as a unified service with three primary offerings for children and young people:

  • Childline Universal - Accessible 24/7, aimed at providing support for children and young people who reach out to us occasionally or irregularly.
  • Childline Connect - Available throughout the year during peak hours, focusing on delivering consistent support to those who contact us regularly.
  • Childline Online - Our digital community where children and young people can find advice, guidance, and support around the clock, tailored to their needs.

Current Opportunities

We are actively seeking dedicated individuals for various full-time and part-time positions within our Childline Universal twilight teams.

Currently, we have openings for 28-hour roles, but we welcome applications from those interested in full-time or 17.5-hour positions, and we are open to discussing your preferences during the interview process.

In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting children and young people during late-night hours when they often feel isolated. You will utilize your skills to assist volunteers as they engage with children. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to directly interact with children and young people, responding to their inquiries as a Childline Practitioner (Twilight). Your responsibilities will include making critical safeguarding decisions during your shifts and providing coaching to enhance service quality.

Make a Meaningful Impact

This role allows you to make a significant positive difference in the lives of thousands of children and young people each year.

We serve hundreds of thousands of children across the UK annually, many of whom seek our support during nighttime hours when other resources may not be available. As a Childline Practitioner (Twilight), you will deliver this essential service alongside a passionate and dedicated team that shares your commitment to supporting children and young people.

Work Schedule

Your work will follow a hybrid rota, ensuring a balanced mix of daytime, twilight, and night shifts over a 6-week cycle, which includes weekend work every three weeks (or every six weeks for those on 17.5-hour contracts). The schedule allows for extended weekends, and a third of your working days can be completed from home. All Childline Practitioners (Twilight) receive a 10.5% rota allowance in addition to their base salary.

Who We Are Looking For

We seek talented individuals who prioritize the well-being of children:

  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people in a safeguarding environment.
  • A strong belief in our mission and a desire to support all children and young people.
  • A genuine passion for helping others, particularly in emotionally challenging situations.

For a comprehensive overview of the qualifications required, please refer to the job description. We encourage all candidates to address and substantiate how they meet each criterion in their supporting statement, adhering to a total word limit of 10,000 characters.

Our ongoing recruitment process allows us to be responsive to all applications, enabling us to progress candidates through the hiring process before the position is officially closed.

Join us in making a difference for children and young people. Discover opportunities for personal growth, face challenges, and share a purpose that inspires you to excel. Together, we can create a lasting impact on the lives of millions of young individuals.

The NSPCC is committed to fostering equality and diversity, aiming to attract a wide range of talented individuals. We fully support the rights of all staff to seek, obtain, and maintain employment, ensuring equal opportunities without discrimination.
