Job Title: Lead Pharmacist

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Pharmacist to join our team in the Emergency Department at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality clinical pharmacy services to patients and influencing senior managers and clinicians within the Emergency Medicine Division.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have substantial post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner, with some experience managing patients in a relevant specialty. You will be responsible for managing and implementing services designed to improve pharmaceutical care to patients and extending the boundaries of clinical practice. You will also participate in clinical audit and research, risk management, and clinical guideline development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a Lead Pharmacist for the ED, including non-medical prescriber services.
  • Manage and implement services designed to improve pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice.
  • Identify and support the facilitation of Clinical Improvement Plans (CIPs) within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and drug budget management.
  • Participate in clinical audit and research, risk management, and clinical guideline development.
Requirements
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain fitness to practice.
  • Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice.
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharmS).
  • Formal management training.
  • Diploma and trainee pharmacist tutor accreditation.
  • Registered as an Independent Non-medical Prescriber.
Experience
  • Substantial post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner, including some experience managing patients in a relevant specialty.
  • Experience in supporting directorate activity, including drug expenditure reporting, formulary management, and DTC applications.
  • Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication.
  • Experience of pharmacist-coordinated discharge medication, patient medication history taking, and one-stop dispensing.
  • Experience of disciplinary matters and the ability to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner.
  • Experience of acting as a designated prescribing practitioner.
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit/research to improve practice.
  • Experience of presenting at directorate or equivalent level.
Skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team both within pharmacy and at multidisciplinary level.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Demonstrate experience in mentorship and training skills.
  • Ability to critically analyse and apply research to the clinical setting.
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates a good core knowledge of therapeutics and pharmacology with a record of successful application in current post.
  • Demonstrable awareness of commitment to Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrable awareness of interface issues.
  • Awareness of current NHS issues, including national and local priorities.
  • Familiarity with JAC computer system.
  • Experience of using an electronic patient record system.
