King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and skilled Medicine and Oncology Nurse to join our team.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated individual to work as an advanced practitioner in acute oncology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in cancer care and will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the development of clinical guidelines and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work autonomously as an advanced practitioner within acute oncology, providing expert care to patients with complex needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, ward rounds, patient reviews, and multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Undertake a variety of clinical skills and provide treatment/advice as per the acute oncology guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Utilise scope of practice to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing role and provide advice on medicine management issues associated with the patient specialty group.
  • Lead in the development and updating of referral guidelines and policies for the service.
  • Manage and escalate medical emergencies appropriately, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Manage medical complexity, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.
  • Complete episodes of care, including referral for further assessment, treatment, and care, ensuring timely and safe discharge and/or transfer of care.
  • Report and raise concerns related to Safeguarding, accessing advice and support as required, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies.
  • Ensure effective and accurate verbal or written handover of patients between healthcare professionals, maintaining high standards of documentation.
  • Monitor the quality and standard of care provided by all members of the team, identifying skills or training gaps and escalating to the appropriate Senior Nurse or Matron.
  • Undertake training to develop further advanced clinical practice roles required by the service, ensuring a high standard of patient care.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in cancer or acute care.
  • Experience in service development and implementation of change.
  • Publication in healthcare journals.
