About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Permanent Futures, where you will play a key role in shaping the future of building design and construction.

The successful candidate will be responsible for applying their expertise in digital tools, including Python programming and Parametric Design (Rhino/Grasshopper), to a variety of building projects. You will work closely with our team to design and develop structurally optimized steel and reinforced concrete building components, utilizing laser-cut digital fabrication to create innovative solutions with reduced embodied carbon.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Concept to detail engineering design stages of buildings and their structural elements, utilizing in-house design, modeling, and analysis tools (Grasshopper/Python).
  2. Developing and implementing Eurocode-compliant design code checks and hand calculations.
  3. Creating CAD models in Rhinoceros, preparing and exporting models for laser-cutting, considering assembly and cost.
  4. Collaborating with clients, internal teams, and external partners to solve problems and provide updates on project progress.
  5. Staying up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance design practices and construction efficiency.

Requirements:

  1. Qualified to MEng degree (or BEng and Masters) in Civil/Structural engineering.
  2. Proven experience as a practicing engineer, with a strong background in structural mechanics/analysis and Eurocodes.
  3. Competent in applying programming languages to solve problems (ideally in Python).
  4. Comfortable using CAD software, with an emphasis on Parametric Modeling (Grasshopper/Dynamo).
