About the Role

Refine Recruitment is in search of a skilled and committed Principal Planning Policy Officer to become a vital part of our Development Services team. This role presents an exciting chance to steer and shape the planning policy framework in a vibrant and picturesque region.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Design and assess local planning policies and strategies.
  • Ensure coherence with national and regional planning frameworks.

Leadership on Policy Initiatives:

  • Oversee intricate planning policy initiatives from start to finish.
  • Facilitate public consultations and collaborate with key stakeholders.

Research and Reporting:

  • Conduct comprehensive research and data analysis to inform policy development.
  • Generate detailed reports and presentations for meetings and external stakeholders.

Collaboration and Representation:

  • Partner with the Development Control team to ensure policy adherence.
  • Represent the organization at public inquiries and hearings.

Expert Guidance:

  • Provide professional insights on planning policy issues to council members and the public.
  • Guide and mentor junior planning officers within the team.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Educational Background: A degree in planning or a related discipline.

  • Professional Qualifications: Licentiate or full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is preferred.

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in crafting and executing planning policies within a local authority context.
  • A proven history of managing significant policy projects and leading public consultations.

  • Skills: Exceptional communication, organizational, and IT capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A dedication to delivering high-quality, customer-oriented services while promoting equal opportunities.

Additional Information

  • Driving Licence: Candidates must possess a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time (37 hours per week) with some out-of-hours commitments, including evening meetings.
