Position: Principal Safety Assessment Specialist

Vacancy: 1

Type: Non-Digital

Contract Duration: 18 months

Work Location: Aldermaston, 3 days per week on-site, no travel required

IR35 Status: Inside

Eligibility for GIS: Yes - qualifies for the guaranteed interview scheme.

Key Evaluation Criteria:

1. Proficiency in conducting nuclear hazard analysis (HAZAN):

  1. Design Basis Assessment
  2. Unmitigated dose evaluations
  3. Assessments for safety function classification
  4. Classification derivation for necessary safety systems
  5. Knowledge of protection methods and their justification

2. Hazard Identification Expertise.

3. Experience in Safety Case Management.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Hazard Identification

Utilization of hazard identification methodologies, and development of hazard and fault schedules.

Experience in nuclear hazard analysis (HAZAN):

• Design Basis Assessment

• Unmitigated dose evaluations

• Safety function classification assessments

• Classification derivation for necessary safety systems

• Understanding of protection methods and their justification

  • Experience in writing nuclear safety cases
  • Background in nuclear safety cases or assessments
  • Experience in a highly regulated sector
  • Ability to create technical safety case documentation
  • Capability to manage and collaborate with delivery partners – strong stakeholder engagement skills

• Gravitas to command attention and respect

• Confidence to assertively challenge when necessary.

  • Understanding of ALARP principles
  • Ability to develop and present a safety case
  • Awareness of environmental considerations
  • Experience in a managerial capacity – overseeing deliverables (no direct people management)
  • Able to follow direction from Line Manager(s)

• Responsible for baseline coverage while also accountable to a Programme.

Must adhere to client processes, values, and protocols.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in a science or engineering discipline
