Job Summary

The Department of Health and Social Care is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Communication and Briefing Lead. As a key member of the NHS Workforce Directorate, you will play a critical role in supporting the department's parliamentary responsibilities and ensuring the timely delivery of briefing products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of four staff members in the briefing hub, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality briefing products.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Ministers, policy teams, and senior leaders.
  • Track and ensure strong directorate performance against central targets on Parliamentary Questions and correspondence cases.
  • Work closely with the Department's media team and policy teams to respond to press queries and develop effective communication strategies.
  • Oversee and sometimes draft responses to commissions relating to parliamentary business, such as debates and urgent questions.
  • Design and develop high-quality briefing tools, such as a directorate core brief, to support the directorate's work.
  • Plan and prioritize work while remaining flexible to respond to changing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt style, formality, and length to achieve different goals and support different audiences.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, collaboration, and building positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, reprioritize, and work flexibly to achieve goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify emerging issues and trends.
