Security Officer

The College of William & Mary is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities Management department, this individual will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our faculty, students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Patrols and Inspections: Conduct regular patrols of our buildings and grounds to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, and suspicious activity.
- Access Control: Manage access to our facilities, including unlocking doors, escorting staff and visitors, and ensuring all doors and windows are properly secured.
- Reporting and Communication: Accurately report all incidents and security concerns to the Security Supervisor and other relevant personnel.
- Training and Development: Assist in the training and development of new security personnel, including mentoring and coaching.
- Special Events: Provide security support for special events and after-hours functions, as needed.
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent, with a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Certifications: Certified Security Officer or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Skills: Working knowledge of security and safety policies and procedures, effective interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience working in a related field, such as security guard, police officer, corrections officer, or park ranger.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience working within a higher education organization, preferably in an academic and/or research environment.
