Job Title: Information Governance Officer

Essex County Council is seeking a highly skilled Information Governance Officer to join our team. As an Information Governance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the council's compliance with data protection and information legislation.

About the Role

The Information Governance Officer will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on data protection and information legislation to officers, customers, partners, and other stakeholders. This includes ensuring all information rights requests are handled efficiently and within legislative timescales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information governance advice and guidance to officers, customers, partners, and others on current data protection and information legislation.
  • Carry out compliance audits for customers, providing audit recommendations and action plans.
  • Ensure all information rights requests are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner within legislative timescales.
  • Maintain and update the CRM with business activities.
  • Support the investigation of data breaches, preparing reports and issuing guidance as necessary.
  • Support the creation, development, and maintenance of an Information Governance framework for customers to ensure compliance with all regulations and legislation.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints, including those to the DPO, from the ICO and FOI internal reviews.
  • Promote data protection awareness through preparation and delivery of communications and training to customers.
Requirements
  • Essential:
    • Responsible for providing information governance advice and guidance to officers, customers, partners, and others on current data protection and information legislation.
    • Ensures all information rights requests are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner within legislative timescales.
    • Maintains and updates the reporting dashboards and reports, including preparing commentary to support the information.
    • Undertakes the investigation of security incidents, preparing reports and issuing guidance as necessary.
  • Desirable:
    • Makes updates to existing policies and assists in the drafting of new or revised policies and guidance.
    • Supports the creation, development, and maintenance of an Information Governance framework for the Council to ensure compliance with all regulations and legislation.
    • Investigates and responds to complaints, including those to the DPO, from the ICO and FOI reviews.
    • Promotes data protection awareness through preparation and delivery of communications and training and ensures intranet and internet pages are updated and maintained in line with policies and guidance.
