Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Creative Arts Therapist (in Art, Music, Drama, or Dance Movement) to become a vital part of our dedicated team. The selected individual will be tasked with the design, implementation, and enhancement of specialized Arts Therapy programs, focusing on both assessment and treatment for individuals and groups utilizing their preferred modality within the East London NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously assess and evaluate therapeutic interventions, emphasizing the importance of service user feedback and outcome metrics to demonstrate efficacy.

• Oversee and mentor assigned staff, including trainees, ensuring a supportive learning environment.

• Engage in Quality Improvement initiatives, research, and audits to enhance service delivery.

• Provide educational sessions and training for multi-disciplinary teams, service users, and caregivers as necessary.

• Play a significant role in local service leadership and development initiatives.

Job Duties

Client Care

• Develop and deliver Arts Therapy services to clients with diverse mental health needs across various settings, utilizing specialized skills.

• Collaborate with the Head Arts Therapist and multidisciplinary colleagues to plan and implement group-focused Arts Therapy programs.

• Conduct assessments for referred clients, planning and executing therapeutic interventions while considering risk factors and individual needs.

• Provide specialized treatment for clients who may struggle with traditional verbal therapies due to cognitive or emotional barriers.

• Facilitate communication between therapists and clients using adaptive techniques as needed.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Utilize clinical expertise to contribute to comprehensive treatment and recovery goals for clients during and after Arts Therapy sessions.

• Participate in joint assessments and collaborative practice as required by the multidisciplinary team.

• Share specialized knowledge during clinical meetings, contributing to the overall care plan for each client.

Administrative Duties

• Adhere to Trust procedures regarding incidents and complaints, maintaining accurate records of client interactions and progress.

• Engage in regular supervision and professional development to enhance clinical practice.

Management and Supervision

• Provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff and trainees, ensuring adherence to Trust policies.

• Participate in recruitment processes and contribute to the development of promotional materials regarding Arts Therapy services.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in an Arts Therapy modality.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for relevant disciplines.
  • Experience working as an Arts Therapist with individuals with Learning Disabilities.

Desirable:

  • Further training in psychological practices relevant to the role.
  • Experience in teaching and training regarding Arts Therapies.
