The Matron will be a highly visible, accessible, and authoritative presence in clinical areas to which patients, their families, and others can turn for leadership, assistance, advice, and support.
The Matron's role will focus on:

- Governance, patient safety, and quality.
- Workforce planning and resource management.
- Patient experience and reducing health inequalities.
- Performance and operational oversight.
- Digital and information technology.
- Education, training, and development.
- Research and development.
- Collaborative working and clinical effectiveness.
- Service improvement and transformation.
About the Team
The Planned and Surgical Care Directorate is responsible for delivering high-quality and effective medical and nursing care to patients within the hospital base, outpatients, and community settings.
This includes patients within the following specialties:
- Multiple Specialties within the Trust related to surgery.
- Main Theatres.
- Day Surgery.
- Anaesthetics.
- Pain management.
- Critical Care Unit.
- Critical Care Out-Reach.
- Theatre Admissions.
- Pre-Operative Assessment.
- Wharfedale Theatres.
Key Responsibilities
The Matron will be responsible for:
- Identifying the strategic direction within the boundaries of the Trust strategic direction.
- The implementation of the strategic direction.
- The management of all resources within their remit, both human and material.
- The risk management arrangements.
- The monitoring of quality of care arrangements.
- Delivering on action plans to improve performance, patient safety, or financial balance.
- The performance against key performance indicators and activity plans.
- Delivery of the financial plan.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nursing or AHP.
- Evidence of post-registration development at degree level.
- Management Experience.
- ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification.
Desirable
- Master's Degree.
Experience
Essential
- Experience and knowledge of clinical nursing practice in Theatre and or Critical Care setting.
- Experience in influencing internal/external activities.
- Experience across the scope of the Matron's ten key roles with potential to do all.
Knowledge
Essential
- Experience at Band 7 or equivalent.
- Current knowledge of clinical nursing practice in Theatres and or Critical care setting.
- Experience of working in partnership with multi-disciplinary team members.
- Implementing complex change in a clinical setting.
