Are you an experienced leader in collections management or historic properties? Do you possess a deep understanding of conservation practices and a passion for engaging with visitors? We are seeking a Senior Collections and House Officer to join our dedicated team, ensuring exceptional care for our collections and providing memorable experiences for our guests.

Your primary working hours will be Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, with a requirement to work one weekend each month.

Working Environment

This remarkable yet cozy estate is home to an array of rare artifacts, and we invite individuals who can help showcase its unique heritage. Among the estate's features are a charming second-hand bookshop, a two-story café located in a historic brew house, and a flourishing kitchen garden that supplies seasonal produce for visitors.

Reporting directly to the Collections and House Manager, you will collaborate with a friendly House Team and oversee a group of three Collections Assistants. Your enthusiasm and dedication to this captivating property will be essential, as the diverse responsibilities of this role offer numerous rewards.

Key Responsibilities

As the leader of the House Team, you will manage a team of Collections Assistants and volunteers, implementing preventive conservation and cleaning initiatives to uphold high standards of care. You will play a crucial role in planning and executing conservation projects, ensuring the daily operations of the house run smoothly while providing an outstanding visitor experience.

You will gather and accurately document information to enhance our understanding of the estate and its collections, employing preventive conservation techniques to improve how we preserve, interpret, and present the property. By setting a strong example, you will foster a culture of excellent customer service, engaging visitors with conservation efforts and the core values of the National Trust.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven leadership skills with experience in managing staff and volunteers
  • Operational expertise in collections management and care within a historic context, including familiarity with relevant collections management systems
  • A solid understanding of preventive conservation and its practical application through routine and deep cleaning programs
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and Emergency Procedures
  • Strong organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
