Job Overview

The Strategic Solutions Architect operates within a dedicated business domain that has allocated funding. This role collaborates closely with a triad of stakeholders and often engages with various product teams to deliver substantial value. The architect identifies this value through Business Epics that encapsulate value propositions, business challenges, and proposed solutions. Each Business Epic is subsequently refined into Features in partnership with product teams.

The Strategic Solutions Architect seeks opportunities for reuse and applies established methodologies to help realize the value propositions. They also provide guidance to the triad regarding the feasibility of the solution and the potential effort required, utilizing T-Shirt sizing for estimation.

Qualifications

This position emphasizes supporting the solution architects within each product team aligned with the initiative. While domain knowledge relevant to the initiative is essential, deep expertise in any single product or specific engineering skill (such as Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI modeling) is not mandatory. However, a solid technical background and experience in developing data-intensive solutions within secure environments, particularly in machine intelligence, are preferred.

A critical aspect of this role involves interlocking with domain experts across operational companies and establishing trusted relationships with principal architects. The architect will assist the Senior Solutions Architect in identifying repeatable patterns that enhance overall solution engineering practices and efficiency. Furthermore, they will ensure that solution engineering patterns are recognized and approved before implementation, adhering to guidelines related to ethics, legal compliance, architectural governance, and cybersecurity.

Strong experience in architecture within a global enterprise context is required, along with the ability to articulate solutions using established architectural principles. The architect will contribute to identifying value within business epics, including T-Shirt level estimations of the work necessary for delivery, providing insights to the initiative's Product & Delivery Lead.

The Strategic Solutions Architect should be adept at recognizing the skill mix and utilization of product teams associated with the initiative backlog and identifying any gaps.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide input on solution patterns for Business Epics
  • Offer T-Shirt sizing estimates for Business Epics
  • Assist in identifying initial Features under Business Epics
  • Support the refinement of Features within product teams
  • Experience with Machine Learning, AI solutions, and cloud infrastructure
  • Promote a strong product-oriented mindset within engineering teams
  • Enhance awareness of industry solutions
  • Broaden knowledge of group solutions
  • Encourage innovative thinking and value-driven solution design
  • Coach product teams on effective engineering practices
  • Reinforce product mindset and methodologies
  • Advocate for Confluence as a unified documentation platform
  • Ensure solutions receive necessary approvals prior to implementation
  • Effectively escalate issues and risks to the Senior Solutions Architect
  • Take ownership of issues specific to the initiative
