Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to enhance our Transportation division. In this capacity, you will oversee a team responsible for conducting thorough investigations, feasibility assessments, and both preliminary and detailed designs for various highway enhancement and maintenance initiatives. This role involves collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as engagement with operational teams and supply chain partners to successfully deliver highway projects.

Location: Ipswich - some remote working options available, with occasional office travel required.

Contract Type: Permanent Full-time

Compensation: £42.5k - £47.5k plus private healthcare and additional benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage improvement schemes, including drainage and footway enhancements, traffic regulation orders, and public realm upgrades, while addressing existing maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure coordinated efforts between Kier and external stakeholders during the design preparation and project execution phases.
  • Develop technical designs, drawings, specifications, and documentation for infrastructure operations, contributing to project management plans.
  • Assume the role of 'Principal Designer' or 'Designer' by creating risk assessments and preparing pre-construction information in line with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Oversee the design program and budget for smaller projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and financial constraints.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Senior Design Engineer position will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering complex projects within highways engineering or related technical fields.
  • Strong technical knowledge of highways design and maintenance practices, including familiarity with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
  • Awareness of environmental regulations and recycling initiatives and their implications for maintenance and improvement projects.
