Position Overview

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is looking to expand its team by appointing additional Radiology Consultants to enhance our collaborative environment. This recruitment initiative is part of our strategic plan to bolster our diagnostic services.

The primary objective of our Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) initiative is to elevate health outcomes and minimize disparities by providing accessible diagnostic services to underserved populations. Our Trust has been allocated resources to establish a central CDC hub and an additional satellite location.

Each state-of-the-art facility, currently in development, will be equipped with advanced imaging technology and is projected to significantly increase our examination capacity. This includes a variety of imaging modalities, ensuring comprehensive diagnostic services.

Key Responsibilities

The role will encompass a broad range of radiological duties, including but not limited to, plain film interpretation, ultrasound, MRI, and CT imaging. We are open to accommodating specific areas of expertise, as our department offers a wide array of imaging services. This recruitment is part of our effort to address the increasing demand for radiological services.

Job Duties

Clinical Duties

  • Deliver high-quality healthcare services for patients requiring diagnostic evaluations.
  • Contribute to the overall radiology operations of the Trust, ensuring adherence to waiting time targets.
  • Complement the existing skills within the department.
  • Engage in departmental activities as required.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide support to colleagues.
  • Offer timely and effective guidance to General Practitioners and hospital staff.
  • Provide coverage for colleagues during their absence.
  • Engage in departmental and directorate meetings as necessary.

Education and Training

  • Participate in regular training and educational sessions.
  • Provide instruction to medical students, residents, and radiology trainees.
  • Mentor Specialist Registrars in Radiology.

Quality Assurance and Governance

  • Actively engage in clinical audits and research initiatives, applying findings to practice.
  • Lead or participate in departmental quality assurance meetings.
  • Support the Trust's clinical governance framework.
  • Attend educational and audit meetings to fulfill continuing professional development requirements.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing professional development at both local and national levels.
  • Implement findings from audits and research into clinical practice.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Be open to taking on additional responsibilities at various levels.

Strategic Planning and Management

  • Support the Trust in delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Assist in formulating the Annual Service Plan for the Directorate.
  • Comply with all Trust policies and procedures.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing workflow and patient experience within the Radiology Department.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • FRCR or equivalent certification.

Registration

  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • Eligibility for the Specialist Register for Clinical Radiology.

Experience

  • General radiology experience across various modalities.
  • Desirable: Experience in the UK healthcare system.
  • Sub-specialty interests in specific areas of radiology.
