The Projects and Technical Architecture team is an integral part of the Technology, Delivery, Strategy, and Commercial division, which is responsible for the ownership and execution of our technology strategy, supported by Business Engagement and Commercial teams.
Within the broader Workspace, Information, Security, and Technology Directorate (WIST), we provide strategic leadership in property, technology, information management, and security services across DHSC and its associated bodies.
The Projects and Technical Architecture team oversees the architectural integrity of the DHSC digital and technology portfolio, delivering hands-on technical leadership in the development, deployment, operation, and enhancement of services. We proactively work to maintain a stable and viable architecture while ensuring design consistency.
Role Responsibilities
This position encompasses extensive technical assurance responsibilities across a diverse portfolio of digital and technology operations, including M365 and Azure, while managing a dynamic array of projects and new integrations.
The role reports directly to the IT Strategy and Technical Design Authority, contributing to all facets of the team's assurance functions and actively advising and influencing a wide range of colleagues, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders.
This is an opportunity to engage with, advise on, and support a modern toolset featuring numerous integrations that benefit both on-site and remote workers within a standardized and resilient enterprise digital and technology framework.
This position is suitable for individuals with prior experience in a similar assurance role or those possessing relevant solution experience who are eager to develop the necessary skills and knowledge breadth.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing and maintaining the IT strategy to ensure its relevance as the DHSC business model evolves.
- Overseeing the architecture transition roadmap, which includes M365 modern workplace, Azure, LAN, telephony, AV, and other services.
- Providing technical assurance for the delivery of specific projects commissioned by DHSC aimed at modernizing core digital and technology services.
- Ensuring proposed solutions align with business objectives and requirements while adhering to strategic and security frameworks.
- Acting as the design authority during project engagements and in preliminary meetings with colleagues and other government departments.
- Managing M365 Message Centre notifications and assessing impacts for change advisory boards.
- Collaborating with business engagement colleagues to interpret user needs for both new and existing services.
- Supporting secure design principles by engaging with cybersecurity and information governance teams.
- Presenting solutions to project and program boards and other stakeholders.
- Reviewing new work requests and proposals against the current product set, strategic roadmap, and business case objectives.
- Leading proof of concept initiatives.
- Engaging with and managing contributions from third-party suppliers to strategy and delivery.
- Staying updated with technical solutions, emerging trends, and aligning with government best practices, policies, standards, toolkits, and relevant legislation.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Practical experience in the technical design, deployment, and support of digital and technology solutions in an enterprise environment.
- Hands-on experience managing Microsoft technologies such as M365, Azure, and Networks.
- Proven ability to gather and comprehend business requirements and define effective solutions.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups and influencing across organizational boundaries, communicating technical issues in accessible language.
- Understanding of technical assurance principles.
- Knowledge of secure design and risk management principles.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience conducting technical assurance activities in an enterprise context.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers.
- Understanding of cybersecurity and information assurance principles.
- Relevant qualifications: Microsoft Certifications related to M365 and Azure or other Cloud Certifications.
- Qualifications: TOGAF.
Your primary workplace will be your contractual location, typically either London or Leeds. DHSC offers non-contractual hybrid working arrangements, with a current expectation of at least 60% of your working time spent in the office to foster in-person interaction and collaboration.
