Key Responsibilities

Under the mentorship of the Clinical Lead, the Clinical Nurse Evaluator will conduct assessments for individuals seeking NHS Continuing Healthcare, adhering to the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS Funded Nursing Care. The role involves advocating for best practices and offering professional guidance to care facilities and other service providers, fostering positive relationships and collaborating with colleagues from various disciplines both within and outside the Integrated Care Board (ICB).

The incumbent will be responsible for following established protocols to determine eligibility for NHS CHC for both current and retrospective cases, including handling appeals and disputes.

As part of the evaluation process, the Clinical Nurse Evaluator will assess the eligibility for NHS CHC and review care plans to ensure that all care requirements are met safely and effectively. You will play a vital role in monitoring and enhancing the quality of care provided to patients, utilizing your previous experience and knowledge to enrich the patient care experience. You will also offer professional advice to patients, caregivers, and multi-agency partners, including directing them to suitable services and resources.

The Clinical Nurse Evaluator will actively participate in the safeguarding adults from abuse process (SAFA) by conducting reviews of individuals identified as being at risk of harm; this includes monitoring and evaluating care placements/packages.

About Our Organization

NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board is a prominent NHS entity with a distinguished governing body. Collaborating closely with partner organizations, the ICB's personnel design, plan, and commission health services for a substantial population while overseeing the quality and effectiveness of those services. The ICB currently has openings for Clinical Nurse Evaluators within the Continuing Healthcare (CHC) team.

In addition to the base salary, these positions offer a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the base salary, subject to minimum and maximum annual payments (pro rata where applicable) in accordance with Agenda for Change.

There are two vacancies for Clinical Nurse Evaluators: one is a full-time position, while the other is part-time at 30 hours per week.

The roles may require travel between various sites.

Qualifications and Expertise

Essential Criteria

  • Current 1st Level Registered Nurse/NMC Registration
  • Degree-level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a similar specialist role
  • In-depth knowledge of current national and local policy/Framework Guidance concerning NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS Funded Nursing Care
  • Familiarity with safeguarding issues and policy guidance
  • Experience working with patients with complex and multiple needs
