Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a proactive and dedicated midwife to join the leadership team as a Maternity Suite Supervisor. In this role, you will collaborate with fellow coordinators and senior management to provide exceptional care that adheres to both local and national standards. Your focus will be on delivering a high-quality service to women with intricate needs, working closely with obstetric professionals and the maternity team.

You will be stationed in the Maternity Suite, offering leadership, support, and guidance to team members around the clock.

This is a permanent role within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will be expected to exhibit strong clinical and leadership capabilities. You will collaborate with ward managers and existing coordinators to ensure the Maternity Unit operates safely, effectively, and is well-managed.

A solid clinical knowledge base, expertise, and a commitment to promoting normality in complex care settings are essential. We seek an individual who understands shift management and can effectively delegate and lead within the broader maternity service.

You will demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills, thriving under pressure while being part of a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

Job Duties

As a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, you will ensure effective communication between hospital and community-based teams. Collaborating closely with the Consultant Midwife, you will advocate for normality in care, supported by a team of Specialist Midwives to deliver a consistent and safe service tailored to the needs of women and families.

Recognizing the growing number of women requiring specialized care, our team is dedicated to fostering collaboration among women, obstetricians, and midwives. We continuously strive to enhance the Maternity Suite environment for women with complex needs.

As part of the Senior Midwifery Team, the successful candidate will help advance the vision of Continuity of Carer for all women. This role presents an excellent opportunity for career advancement and the development of leadership skills.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering high standards of midwifery care based on thorough assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to meet patient needs in line with established local and national standards.
  • Setting, monitoring, and maintaining care standards to enhance patient experience and outcomes.
  • Proactively managing risks and ensuring patient safety in accordance with health, safety, and security regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Communicating pertinent information to the multidisciplinary team and external organizations to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Overseeing staff management and providing education and training to junior staff members.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Midwife
  • Degree in Midwifery
  • NMC recognized Mentorship qualification

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Progressing towards a Master's Degree

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

Essential Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of normal birth and complexities in childbirth.
  • Ability to implement changes in practice effectively.
  • Familiarity with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of risk management and clinical governance as it pertains to practice.
  • Awareness of ethical considerations in midwifery.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in team management.
  • Proven track record of undertaking management responsibilities.
  • Evidence of collaborative work across multiple agencies.
