Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our Oncology & Haematology Emergency Assessment Bay (EAB) team at Northampton General Hospital. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality clinical care to cancer patients and supporting junior colleagues to learn and develop their skills.

About the Role

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high standards of care to patients and their families, ensuring excellent patient experience. This will involve assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of patients. The post holder will also participate in the daily running of the department, ensuring smooth and efficient running, and will take charge on shift in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and organise the clinical area when on duty.
  • Undertake or have a willingness to undertake the SACT course to facilitate administration of SACT within the department.
  • Participate as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team.
  • Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families, and carers.
  • Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in the monitoring of workload and skill mix, planning off-duty, and ensuring the ward operates effectively and safely.
Person Specification

We are looking for a nurse who:

  • Hold NMC registration.
  • Has a recognised teaching qualification and mentorship.
  • Has previous experience of working in an Oncology/Haematology department.
  • Has previous people/team management experience.
  • Has a level of knowledge related to chemotherapy.
  • Is competent in SACT administration.
