Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Acute Pain team at Northampton General Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing specialist care and advice to deliver a high-quality Acute Pain Service (APS).

Main Duties
  • Provide acute pain specialist advice to support and facilitate high-quality individualized care to patients, relatives, and carers without supervision in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team in line with local and national guidelines.
  • Take overall responsibility to develop the acute pain team in partnership with other members of the specialty, working collaboratively to develop services and the quality of care delivered.
  • Be innovative and have responsibility for developing and changing practice and/or services in a complex and unpredictable environment.
  • Carry responsibility for the APS, including setting high standards of care, the assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of protocols of care.
  • Work autonomously where required, utilizing specialist knowledge within the field, and provide expert advice to other healthcare professionals and patients/carers.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Several years' experience within the specialty at a senior level.
  • Knowledge and expertise of specialty pathologies and treatment.
  • Ability to undertake patient clinical history, assessment, and plan treatment pathway.
  • Ability to deliver formal and informal training sessions with a variety of styles and resources.
  • Evidence of developing patient protocols and evaluation assessments.

Desirable

  • Ability to undertake nurse-led clinics and schedule effectively.
  • Research awareness.
  • Knowledge and experience of practice development.

Education, Training, and Qualifications

  • Education to degree level or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
  • Post-Registration role-specific qualification at level 7.
  • Teaching/assessing qualification. Minimum practice supervisor/assessor.
  • Registered Nurse level 1/Registered Allied Health Professional.
