Main Responsibilities

As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with complex issues related to substance use and its impact on their physical and mental health.

Key Duties
  • Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments to identify individual needs and develop personalized recovery plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide specialist clinical interventions, including community alcohol detoxification and opioid detoxification.
  • Provide education, health promotion, and screening for blood-borne viruses, as well as Hepatitis A/B vaccinations.
  • Work closely with individuals to develop and implement integrated care and treatment pathways for those infected with blood-borne viruses.
  • Undertake phlebotomy and use blood results to inform assessment and referral decisions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of CGL's Naloxone Strategy by training staff and individuals in the use of naloxone.
  • Provide line management, supervision, and support to HCAs, student nurses, and volunteers.
Requirements
  • Sound knowledge of harm reduction and health promotion interventions.
  • Ability to assess and co-produce recovery plans with individuals, and formulate written reports as necessary.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel between services.
  • Understanding of and commitment to safeguarding best practice.
