Deputy Head of Year Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at an "Outstanding" all-girls school in Tower Hamlets for the Deputy Head of Year role. This position offers the potential for extension until the end of the academic year, with working hours from 8:30 to 16:30, and does not require QTS. Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver at least one cover lesson per week, stepping in to teach pre-prepared lessons, adapting to different subjects, and managing classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Support the Head of Year in overseeing the academic and pastoral care of students, including monitoring progress, managing behaviour, and assisting with year group events.
  • Provide individual support to students, addressing personal, social, and emotional issues, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment that promotes student well-being.
  • Implement and monitor behaviour management strategies, ensuring a respectful and conducive learning atmosphere, and addressing behavioural concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Offer guidance and advice on academic progression, career aspirations, and personal development, and assist students in setting and achieving their goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, counsellors, and other support services to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Manage student records, monitor attendance, and ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Relevant experience in pastoral care, behaviour management, or a similar role within an educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting student well-being and success.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and pressures faced by secondary students, and the ability to provide appropriate support and guidance.
